The Cue2Walk device aims to address freezing of gait in Parkinson’s disease. A wearable device that is designed to help individuals with Parkinson’s disease overcome freezing of gait episodes and improve their mobility. It provides cues that assist users in overcoming the freezing sensation and encourages smoother walking. The device is designed to be discreet, allowing it to be worn under clothing. By helping users maintain a more stable and fluid walking pattern, the Cue2Walk device may contribute to reducing the risk of falls, which is a common concern for individuals with Parkinson’s disease.
Co-Creation
The project involves collaboration between Cue2Walk, designer Chris Weel, and Bolster Softgoods. This co-creation approach ensures that both the functionality and the design aspects of the strap are well thought out and optimized. Chris Weel is responsible for visualizing the design of the Cue2Walk strap, while Bolster Softgoods translated this visualization into a textile prototype.
Textile strap
The Cue2Walk device is worn just below the knee on the outside of the knee joint. This placement is strategically chosen to provide the necessary cues to the user’s legs for overcoming freezing of gait episodes. Due to the design the strap can be used on both legs.
The strap used to secure the device has two clasps. One clasp is intended for the strap to be customized by a physiotherapist to fit the user’s measurements accurately. The other clasp allows the user to easily put on and take off the device.
Overall, the Cue2Walk project is a well-designed and comprehensive effort to address freezing of gait in Parkinson’s disease. The collaborative approach, discreet design, and focus on user comfort and effectiveness are all commendable aspects of this initiative. Individuals with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers may find this device valuable in improving mobility and reducing the impact of freezing of gait episodes.
